Sri Moolarama is the supreme deity worshipped at Shri Utttaradi Math. Moolarama is an idol of Lord "Sri Ramchandra". It is very important to note that unlike most of the other idols available all over the world, this idol has 2 miraculous and distinctive features:

  1. It is "Swayamvyakta" : Vishwakarma, Who is said to be the Sculptor of the world of Deities carved this beautiful idol, which then was wished by ChaturMukha Brahma for worship, appeared in front of him without any manual effort.
  2. It is a "Chaturyuga Moorthi" which means the idol has been into worship since 4 yugas: Krutayuga, Tretayuga, Dwaparayuga and now Kaliyuga.

It is said in shaastras that the "Sannidhana" (auspicious presence) of Lord Almighty in an idol is decided by the "Archaka" (the one who performs pooja everyday), Under this context, the Sannidhana in the Moolarama idol is way beyond our perception as the idol has been worsipped by Lord Rama himself. Sita devi worshipped it as an auspicious souvenir of her husband's supremacy. The idol was then accordingly worshipped by ChaturMukha Brahma, Shiva, Parvati devi, Daksha Prajapati, Soubhari Rushi, Vivasvan, Vaivavasvata Manu, Ikshwaku, Mandhaata, Trishanku, Harischandra, Sagara, Bhageeratha, Ambareesha, Dilipa, Consecutive kings of Ikshwaku dynasty, Dasharatha, Lord Rama, Sita devi, A brahmana named Vedagarbha, Hanumantha, Bheema of Mahabharata, Dharmaraja, All the other Pandavas, Parikshita, Janimejaya, Kshemaka, The king Mukundavarma who ruled Orissa and from him Sri Narahari Teertha fetched it for Sri Madhwacharya (Third incarnation of Vayu) who passed it onto Sri Padmanabha Teertha likewise was passed on subsequently to the entire lineage of Sri Uttaradi Math and is being worshipped even now by Shri Satyatma Teertha.

These are no idols with recognizable features like Eyes, Nose, Limbs etc but are just as simple as a piece of rock. They appear like 4 stones surrounding another tortoise-like stone. These were blessed to Sri Madhwacharya by Lord Narayana and also by Lord Vedavyasa(Incarnation of Lord Narayana) when he visited MahABadari for Vedavyasa's Darshana. These VyasaMushtis are an abode of very high Sannidhana of Lord Almighty. These were 8 in number when were handed over to Sri Madhwacharya, Out of which 5 of them reside at Sri Uttaradi Math. Down the lane during the period Sri Raghunatha Teertha, One of the Mushtis slipped and fell into river Tungabhadra while he was performing pooja at the riverside. After 7 days of fasting, Sri Raghunatha teertha had a message in his dream asking him to take out all the Tortoise shaped stones that he finds in the river, perform abhishekam to them and the one that starts rotating as he pours milk on it is the lost VyasaMushti that has come back as Koorma Saaligrama. The next day, The dream turned into reality and the Lost VyasaMushti was re-obtained as Koorma Saaligrama (Tortoise shaped Saaligrama stone). These idols are shown placed in a golden plate by HH during Pooja.
